NaNoWriMo 4th Nov, 2009 @ 22:57
So, I've made a start on my story for NaNoWriMo, currently less than a thousand words, so not a good start given I'm 4 days behind...

Meme: "What would Gavin never say?" 14th Sep, 2009 @ 22:46
Seen on [info]fayrobert's LJ, and originally from [info]marnanel's.

So, how well do you know me? What do you think I'd never say?

Lesbian banned from Xbox Live 26th Feb, 2009 @ 13:22
I was not impressed to read this post today about a Lesbian getting first hounded and then when reporting it, getting banned from the Xbox Live network by Microsoft.

I found it through this article on Slashdot.

Microsoft even suspended a "Mr Gaywood" purely because of the word "gay" in his surname. I certainly won't be considering an Xbox and Xbox Live subscription any time soon if this is how they treat people...

My Yahoo horoscope seems to be spot on:

"Upheavals within a group you're affiliated with, perhaps professionally, might cause you to alter your goals slightly, dear Capricorn. In the long run, this could well prove to be a positive development, though the conditions leading to it could be a bit disconcerting. Think of this as an opportunity to pursue new hopes and dreams that you may not have even considered before. Plan carefully, and then go for the gold."

Hmmm...

According to my horoscope I'm leading a thrilling life right now.

If you redefine 'thrill' to include trying not to cough up my lungs and sneezing with the explosive force of Krakatoa. then yes, it's thrilling...

If you thought you were unfairly failed on your driving test, then you'll agree that this was the very unfair:

» And another funny comic...
Another funny comic I read is Too Much Information (introduced to by [info]fayroberts). It's an amusing and sometimes surreal comic, centring around a few people sharing a house, and involving their friends and family (and an angel and devil!).

At least two of the characters are lesbian, gay, and/or transvestites, so if you aren't comfortable with that, don't read it. There's a fair amount of skimpy clothing or partial nudity (so not exactly work-safe unless your workplace is rather laid back about that).

Anyway, one of my reasons for writing about this is that the author of the comic is currently in a bit of a financial squeeze and needs donations. If you read his comic, and like it, why not donate, say, what you'd spend on a decent magazine (no, I don't mean that 99p one! :-p ) - the link is on the comic page.

The Pound is currently fairly strong against the Dollar. Looking at conversion rates today, £1 is about $1.82, so £8 is about $14.50. If you are more generous, £10 is about $18, and £20 is about $36. I donated $40 yesterday, and I worked that out as costing me about £22 which, for all the amusement it's given me, I felt was a reasonable figure (I'd love to have been able to give more, but my finances aren't great either, despite this having been a good month).

For the European reader, €1 = $1.47, so €10 is a little under $15, €20 is just under $30, and €25 is about $36.50.

If you're a geek and haven't read Userfriendly before, I suggest you make some time to go through the whole thing from the start. :-)
